Summer Style File

When the kids are out of school and the days get longer, summer style appears.  Summer-only style includes more than cut-off jeans and flip flops, there are certain accessories, colors, and fabrics that only come out during this season which are uniquely summer.  These fashions can’t (or shouldn’t) be spotted any other time of year.  With Memorial Day around the corner and things heating up around the country, it’s time to embrace the summer-only style file.

Espadrilles
Espadrilles are a summer staple.  An espadrille is any shoe with the sole decorated in woven rope and the top is usually a cotton fabric, canvas, linen or hemp.  These solely summer shoes come in every style from flats to wedges, solids, patterns, heels or loafers.  Espadrilles look like summer with the natural elements and bright colors.  Definitely a must-have.

Seersucker
This fabric screams summertime.  Seersucker is both fashion forward, on-trend and practical.  The thin, puckered and all-cotton fabric is great in hot weather because it is easily managed and breaths well.  Generally seersucker is found in thin stripe patterns or a checkered pattern.  It is used in suits, skirts, tops and sun dresses for the young and the older.  It looks classy, clean and carries a bit of east coast charm all summer long.  Whether you’re going on a yacht or to the grocery store, seersucker is a great way to celebrate summer. 

Bermuda Shorts
Many women dread pulling out the shorts and worry about baring the legs but Bermuda shorts are  a great way to welcome in summer without baring it all.   Sport them with a summer top and fun pair of sandals and throw insecurities to the wind.  If shorts are still having you breathing into a paper bag, the trend of colored jeans and printed pants is definitely a summer flair that will cover you up while keeping you on trend.

Bright Whites
While white is no longer confined to the four months between Memorial Day and labor day, it is definitely emphasized during these times.  Break out shoes, white pants and white skirts throughout the spring and summer months.  White is a great wardrobe stable because you can add it to any outfit and instantly give a summer lift.  When shopping, always be sure that white pants and skirts are fully lined and never transparent.

Hats
While beanies and earmuffs might keep you covered the rest of the year, summer is the time to have some fun in the sun with a floppy or brimmed, flirty hat. These hats are feminine and chic, while adding additional sun protection.  Make a statement with a big floppy hat, a woven cloche or a fun fedora as an accessory to any summery outfit.
